In Association With The Friends of Tipperary Hospital Radio Clonmel CLG
Our station, originally known as South Tipperary General Hospital Radio, was founded in the year 2000 by a dedicated group of hospital staff members and volunteers led by John Savage and Anne Kavanagh. With the support of hospital management, it has been on the air since then, providing entertainment and information to the staff and patients of Tipperary University Hospital.
John Savage is the co-founder of Tipperary Hospital Radio, and indeed the Friends of Tipperary UH. This group raises vital funds to provide the resources for the provision of equipment, services and other means of care and support for the patients in the hospital (Friends of South Tipperary General Hospital Ltd Statement). The Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital (as it was known then) was set up in 1980 by John, and the radio station followed in 2000, which was also founded by John, alongside Anne Kavanagh, and the Friends.
While John has stepped back from the role as station manager, he is still very much at the heart of this organisation, and plays a pivotal part in making it the great success that it has been for the last 45 years.
